Nationality: Canada
Education: PhD University of Chicago
Area: Anthropology

Bianca Dahl is a cultural and medical anthropologist who received her PhD in Comparative Human Development from the University of Chicago. Dahl’s work explores the social effects of international humanitarian organizations’ efforts to provide aid during Africa’s HIV pandemic. She examines how foreign aidworkers’ practices intersect with the priorities, shifting modes of self-expression, and daily lives of targeted populations in Botswana. Her research foregrounds orphans and HIV-positive children " and various stakeholders seeking to care for them " as lenses through which to understand rapidly changing patterns of social reproduction, subjectivity, and sociality in Botswana today. Dahl’s research is situated at the interstices of medical anthropology, anthropological demography, global health, kinship studies, and the anthropology of international development and humanitarianism.
