Brown Goes Beyond Business

Brown University welcomes 20 global executives to the IE Brown Executive MBA program on March 9 - 21, 2014 for a unique program that goes beyond business and prepares a new type of executive for the challenges of today's dynamic market. During this 15-month program of residential and online learning, these executives will combine management science with the liberal arts and humanities at Brown, at the IE Business School in Madrid, and on a global experience in Cape Town, South Africa.

Providence, R.I. (Brown University)
From among all the MBA programs offered in the US and abroad, 20 fast-track business leaders will build their competitive edge with an IE Brown Executive MBA. These executives, from 12 different industries and 14 countries, are the fourth cohort to enroll in this innovative program offered by top-ranked IE Business School in Madrid, Spain, and Brown University. When they arrive on March 9 for their first residential session at Brown, they will be ready to tackle a challenging curriculum of management science, liberal arts, and humanities.

This new cohort of students averages 14 years of work experience and 37 years of age with a range in age from 31-56 years. Like the three IE Brown EMBA classes before them, 33% are women and all are eager to push their thinking in this program by going beyond the boundaries of a traditional MBA. By integrating innovative management science with the human sciences of liberal arts and humanities, the IE Brown EMBA is a platform for business leaders to hone their skills and to explore the increasingly complex economic, social, and political forces shaping our world. Graduates become leaders and entrepreneurs who do not shy away from the difficult questions, and change agents in their organizations, industries, and communities.

"We are looking forward to welcoming the IE Brown students," said Angus Kingon, Academic Director of this program at Brown, and Professor of Engineering. "I'm impressed with the diverse perspectives and energy these executives bring to campus. They will get right to work, coalesce as a learning community, and go after the tough challenges together. Best of all, they will form a powerful network and become a lifelong resource for each other."

During the 15-month program, these students meet for two residential sessions each at Brown and IE, and tackle a complex and real problem in their global experience in Cape Town, South Africa. When not face-to-face, they learn online in a business-friendly format that respects the demands on their time, and allows them to continue working while earning this degree. By gaining new knowledge, perfecting their managerial skills, and becoming more responsive to the global context of their work, these students emerge as highly effective business leaders.

This new class will graduate sooner than they imagine. With an MBA from IE, they become alumni of Brown as well and, like those before them, they will have an impact at Brown and beyond. Recent IE Brown alumni are creating companies, hiring their classmates, and creating internships and other opportunities for Brown undergraduates. IE and Brown welcome these students who are ready to make a difference.
